Surface Mount Device (SMD) and Chip on Board (COB) are two major LED packaging technologies. Understanding their differences helps you choose the right display.
SMD LED: Individual LED chips mounted on PCB. Cost-effective, widely available, suitable for P2-P10 applications. Most common in outdoor displays.
COB LED: Multiple LED chips encapsulated together. Better protection, higher contrast, suitable for fine pitch (P1.2-P1.8) indoor displays.
Recommendation: Use SMD for outdoor/rental, COB for premium indoor applications.
